Sucking it Up and Drawing On

I made promises to you guys last Tuesday that I ultimately failed to keep, and for that I apologize.  I was a little under the weather late last week and stuff got pushed back as a result.  However, by the time you read this, there’s a good chance the comic archives will in fact be available once again.

I did get to watch the NFL Draft, even though I wasn’t well enough to opine upon it in real time as I had hoped.  I think the Cowboys did well, but who the hell really knows at this stage, right?  But the pick that absolutely made my night was Douche McDaniels and the Donklettes trading up into the first round to select Tim Tebow as their “quarterback of the future.”  It couldn’t have happened to a stupider coach/franchise.  I can’t wait until 2012 when the state of Colorado will be wishing they had Kyle Orton back …

Speaking of sports franchises and sucking, that brings me to my Dallas Mavericks, who are but one more loss away from another first-round bounce, this time at the hands of the hated San Antonio Spurs.  I was in Big D this weekend for Game 3 and 4 (somewhat ironically, as both contests were held in San Antonio) where I was treated to local talk radio programs in which moderators and fans alike cast about vainly for answers to what appears to be another humiliating play-off exit for the Mavs.   In all the time that I listened, I don’t think anyone addressed the two indelible facts that are driving San Antonio’s 3-1 series lead: 1) the Mavs are shooting pretty poorly and 2) outside of Game 1, the Spurs have been playing out of their minds (I think they shot over 60% in Game 4).  Sometimes, one team gets cold when another team gets hot, and that can make all the difference.

What I’m Reading: Siege (Marvel Comics)
What I’m Watching: Bleach Season 3
What I’m Listening to: “Twilight Zone” (Golden Earring)

Q. Excuse me, what are you in line for?

A. Kick-Ass.

(The above is an actual exchange that took place between a sweet old lady and Keyshawn while we waited in line at Alamo Drafthouse last Saturday night.)

In a move that I’m sure surprises none of my long-time readers, I caught the film adaptation of the Mark Millar-penned comic book and thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of it.  Unfortunately, the box office receipts have proven to be underwhelming; coupled with the poor showing of last year’s Watchmen flick, it seems inevitable that Hollywood is going to conclude that making movies for the comic book cognoscenti demographic alone is going to be bad for business moving forward.  I’m undecided on to whether or not that’s a good thing.

I’ve (finally) completed rescanning all of the old strips from my college days, which means that the entire run of the strip will be available online by the end of the week.  With that project complete, I’ll be turning my energies toward a new, updated cast page very shortly.

***

In another move that should surprise no one, I’ll be watching and transcribing the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft this Thursday night.  Football fans should have something fun to read here ere the night concludes.
